We know from mummies of ancient Egypt that chronic diseases like
arthritis, heart disease and cancer were all around back then. Now we
are living longer because we were able to solve the problem of
infectious disease like pneumonia, and we are able to save people who
get into accidents and other trauma. But it is clear that chronic
diseases are on the rise not just because we are living long enough to
get them. Why?
Most experts agree that it is related to the chronic
toxicities from both the environment we live in as well as the toxins we
produce in our own body by consuming food that is all wrong on many
levels. This leads to a chronically inflamed state and internal
“corrosion” of cells as well as your very genes. A way to explain it is
that we are rusting ourselves out. This is basically an oxidation
process at the molecular level and so we talk about free radicals,
reactive oxygen species and how to combat those using antioxidants in
our diet and in supplements. So, is reducing chronic disease and
retarding the aging process as simple as taking a fistful of
antioxidants thinking more is better? If so, which ones are the “best”?
